Not motivated to accomplish your tasks?  Here are some practical ways to connect with others to get the job done:

  • Do you hate to do laundry?

Consider meeting a friend once a week at the local laundromat to get your laundry done and enjoy the chat.

  • Do you hate to handle your mail?

Call/Skype or FaceTime with a friend once a week while you both deal with your mail piles. Sometimes you just need to talk out loud and feel that you are not alone when doing tasks you don’t like.

  • Are there tasks that you just don’t like to do and others you do enjoy?

Work with your spouse to divvy up the chores so both of you get to do what you enjoy.

Other ways to motivate yourself to get the job done:

  • Schedule a fun activity regularly with a friend after you have completed the task you don’t like.  Pay yourself for doing the tasks you hate. Spend that money with someone you enjoy.

  • Choose an accountability partner that will call you to see how your tasks are coming.

  • Do the task as a gift for someone in your home. Ex: Clean out the garage as a gift of love for your spouse.

  • Invite a friend over to help tackle a tough task and then return the favor at her house.

  • If you can’t be together in person, call/Skype or FaceTime while you both work on tough jobs. Just having someone to share the misery is helpful.

We are not alone on this planet for a reason.  We need each other!  We need partnership and community. Reach out for it and be willing to give it.  Two heads are better than one!
