Who needs a Professional Organizer?

From all the hoarders shows you see on TV these days, you might think that only people with extreme hoarding issues need professional organizers.  But you may be surprised to know that professional organizers can help a wide variety of people in different stages of their lives.

To give you just a taste, I have put together my "Top 12" list of the types of clients that I have worked with in the past and how they benefited from hiring a professional organizer.  I hope this list inspires you or someone you know.

People selling an old home or buying a new one
  • Help de-clutter home to improve how house "shows" for quicker sale.
  • De-clutter BEFORE packing to avoid moving unwanted stuff.  This saves the homeowner money when moving.  (You know those boxes in the basement or attic that never get opened from move to move.)
  • Help new homeowners organize after they move to help them "settle in."
Organized people experiencing life changes
(new job, new family member, move, health loss.....)
  • Help to get caught up and back to the organized systems that got overwhelmed when life happened.
Those lacking organizational knowledge and skills
  • Create an organizing system that works for their personality with an easily maintainable system.
Kids who have been over-loved by family
  • Help kids to determine toys they really love and play with.  Create a realistic system for them to enjoy their toys and be able to clean up without a meltdown or World War III.
Homes over-stuffed (stuff comes in faster than it leaves)
  • Put your home on a "weight loss program" that helps you lose the excess weight as fast and painless as possible including a realistic plan for new acquisitions.
People with ADD or who have trouble focusing
  • Keep them focused on an organizing task to get it finished.  Help keep their possessions to a reasonable amount that they can manage.
Small businesses
  • Develop a system to stay on top of the daily responsibilities and inventory/files to increase efficiency and decrease costs.
Home-based businesses
  • Create balance between work and home for maximum productivity.
Remodelers
  • Help design efficient spaces and help with the purge before the remodel to make sure the space is used most efficiently.
Downsizing Seniors who are overwhelmed
  • Assist in downsizing a lifetime of possessions.  Help to break the project down to manageable tasks and physically assist to move the piles and furniture.
The Overwhelmed
  • Create an action plan of where to start and how to proceed.  Provide the accountability and encouragement to finish the task.
Grievers (usually from the loss of a loved one)
  • Provide someone to hear the stories and to help process through the lost loved one's possessions.
Are you on this list?  These are just a few of the types of clients I have had who greatly benefited form the expertise of a professional organizer.  An organizer comes in with fresh ideas and energy to tackle the "stuff" in your life that threatens to take over.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just ready to tackle the stuff, consider calling for a consultation to learn how you can speed up the process and get the tools to get it done in a fraction of the time it would take you on your own.
